RALEIGH - Selma businessman and Republican leader Dan Mansell will file for the Second Congressional District seat in Congress Wednesday morning.  Mansell, 50, promised to give the voters of the Second Congressional District a “breath of fresh air and a break from the tired old politics of the past.”

Mansell says, “Bob Etheridge is part of the major problem we have in Washington. He promised to lower our sky-high gas prices. What has he done to lower them?  Nothing. He promised to lower the cost of healthcare.  What has he done to lower it? Nothing.

“On fuel and energy issues, we must develop a comprehensive energy program. In order to reduce our gas prices, the long-term goal is to be free of foreign fuel within ten years. To accomplish this, we must be realistic. We must move away from the partisan politics and agendas driven by Washington lobbyists. We must develop alternative energy sources.  Fuel cells, electrical cars, wind energy, solar, and nuclear are all options that must be developed now. This responsibility cannot be delegated to our children and grandchildren. Our short-term goals require that we fully utilize and refine our own fuel reserves. This can and must be done in an ethical way that does not harm our environment, nor contradict our stewardship of our beautiful land. Our continued dependence on coal and oil to fuel our electrical power stations is not only extortionate, but also damaging to the environment and to the health of our citizens. Modern nuclear power stations are an alternative to the burdens on our overwhelmed electrical grid. We must investigate and implement real change that will be cost effective for our citizens - not measures which are purely designed as a “quick fix” to appease Washington lobbyists. This seems to be the policy of many of our current congressmen; in particular, the 2nd District’s own Bob “Ethanol” Etheridge.”

“By accomplishing these goals, we will: 1) Lower energy prices, which will help achieve economic security; 2) Assist with improving our environment and help with global warning, and 3) Ensure that our hard-earned dollars are not going to be used by overseas governments whose intention may be to harm us.”

On health care, Mansell says, “I feel that  it’s long overdue for the Republican Party to step up to the plate and get serious about providing affordable health care insurance to anyone who wants or needs it. We are the richest nation in the world, and in my opinion the greatest nation, but I find it appalling that 40 million Americans are without adequate insurance. Affordable health care can be in our future if Congress is willing to face our country’s problems head on. However, creating another level of government bureaucracy is not the answer.”

“North Carolinians in the 2nd District have an opportunity in November to work towards positive change in our district instead of more of the same. The 2nd District has had enough of politicians who put the needs of lobbyists and special interest groups before its citizens. I pledge to truly represent the needs and aspirations of the citizens of the 2nd Congressional District.”

Mansell served as the North Carolina Republican Party’s Second Congressional District Chairman for three years and is a former member of both the Johnston County Planning Board and the Johnston Memorial Hospital Board.

Mansell is the Managing Partner of Demco Construction Services, LLC, a coating and fireproofing inspections and consulting firm.  He served three years active duty in the U.S. Army and 13 years in the Army Reserve.  He serves on the Johnston County YMCA Advisory Board.

Dan has been married to his wife, Crystal, for 26 years.  The Mansells are members of Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield, where he has served on the Church Council and Chaired the Missions Program.
